A few weeks ago I played a football match vs Motor Lublin in  Central Youth League. My team started the game really well, but we could not score the goal. I noticed that our advantage haven not influence the opposite team coach, who was giving constructive, encauraging or prasing comments to his team. After our domination the opponent scored a goal, which made our coaches furious. They started to shout agressively and vent their frustration on the team. We started to play worse and we conceded another two goals. It make our coaches resigned and in the second half there was no comment from any of them, which resulted in equalising. This situation has confirmed my conviction about agresive, negative motivation being succesful far more rarely than the opposite one. It usually makes people more stressed and frustrated, especially in situations, where it is certain that a person wants to do as well as it can.

  1. According to research, the only kind of feedback that really works is constructive workable remarks about what you do well and what can be improved. Neither general praise nor aggressive criticism changes anything in our performance.
